In order to successfully participate in the Pierce County community, Centro Latino’s clients must first be able to meet their individual and family needs. Education, Employment, and Life Skills all impact an individual’s ability to be self-sufficient.Centro Latino’s Adult Employment and Education Services support individuals in building skills, maximizing potential, and increasing their ability to fully contribute to the economy, culture, and vitality of Pierce County. Adult Employment and Education Services address the following areas:

Adult Education

Centro Latino’s Adult Education services provide adult learners with opportunities that increase their basic skills. In addition to traditional instruction, students are provided with culturally and linguistically appropriate support that encourages them to achieve their goals.

English As A Second Langage Classes

¡Charlas!

Practice your English with Americans who speak Spanish and have fun in the process. Training provided; check for dates. New sessions start Sept/Jan/June. English-speakers of all levels welcome. No registration required. Children are welcome.
Thursdays, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Basic Computer Class in Spanish

Learn how to use word processing programs and the Internet. Taught in Spanish. Limited enrollment. For registration and information, call (253) 572-7717

Citizenship Workshops

Three sequenced workshops: The Application Process; U.S. Civics & History; Interview Preparation. Fee: $25 per wrokshop or $60 for all three.

Workplace ESL

Centro Latino offers on-site ESL classes designed to improve the work performance of English-learners.

The opportunity to earn a living wage is fundamental in ensuring that an individual’s basic survival needs are being met. Centro Latino recognizes the challenges that limited English speakers who are new to the area are faced with. Centro Latino’s bilingual English/Spanish case managers are skilled in providing employment services and support to both English and Spanish speakers

Along with an ample variety of job applications available from many companies in the King, Pierce and Thurston counties area, these are the main services offered by the Adult Employment & Training Department.
