Parenting and Family Support

The Family Support Centers are part of a community effort to build strong neighborhoods and healthy families. The Partnership provides in-home support to parents and caregivers of children by highly trained Family Support Workers in order to create the best environment possible for a child to grow socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. The Family Support Partnership focuses on strengthening child-parent relationships through the implementation of one of two international programs proven to be successful.

Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) Prevention

Centro Latino currently offers two programs to all our families:
  1. Parents For Prevention
  2. Ambassadors For Prevention
Parents for Prevention
An 8-week curriculum designed for parents with kids between the ages of 0 and 12 which focuses on developing family support, building strong connections between parent and child, helping parents feel comfortable talking with kids about boundaries and healthy sexuality. Curriculum also provides parents with the tools to recognize behavior changes in their children and how to approach a conversation. By parents learning to accept the vocabulary of sexual violence and promotion of personal safety of their children, they can teach their children to protect themselves and dispel the cultural norm of risking becoming outcast from the family for reporting incestuous and assault sexual behaviors.

Ambassadors For Prevention
This program is aimed at graduates from the Parents for Prevention program who want to continue the conversation. We learned there was a need for more discussion, parents were interested in continuing the conversations and wanted to spread the word about what they had learned. After they complete the program, parents engage their families and neighbors to participate in making important changes in our culture as it relates to sexual violence and Machismo. Parents go through the curriculum which has two 4-week components.
