Current Volunteer Opportunities

Adult Education & Training Programs

Pre-K Bilingual Paraeducator:

Provide 2-hour school-readiness sessions for children ages 0-4, following a bilingual/bi-literate curriculum. Spanish proficiency required

Time: Varies, two (2) days/week or more.

Location: Varies

 

ESL Teacher for Adults:

Teach 10-20 Latino adults who are not proficient in English. May work alone or as part of a team. Training and experience in teaching ESL preferred. Training and experience in teaching adults preferred. Spanish language proficiency preferred.

Time: Vary, work two (2) days/week or more

Location: Varies

 

ESL Tutor:

Provide intensive practice in one or more communication areas (writing, speaking, reading, or listening) for adult ESL students. Training and experience in ESL tutoring preferred. Spanish language proficiency preferred.

Time: Varies, work one (1) day/week or more

Spanish GED Tutor:

Help Latino youth and adults prepare to take any portion of the GED exam in Spanish. The exam covers literature, social studies, science, mathematics, and essay writing. Will work one-on-one or with small groups. Spanish language proficiency required.

Time: Varies, work one (1) day/week or more

Location: Varies

 

Spanish Literacy Tutor:

Work with Latino youth or adults to become literate in the Spanish language. Training and experience in literacy teaching or tutoring preferred. Spanish language proficiency required.

Time: Varies, one (1) day/week or more

Location: Varies

 

Instructor for Citizenship Classes:

Prepare 10-15 Latino adults for the citizenship exam be reviewing US History and civics and practicing the English language skills. May work alone or as part of a team. Spanish language proficiency preferred.

Time: Varies, one (1) day/week for approximately 10 weeks

¡Charlas!:

Volunteers facilitate conversation in a social setting, exchange information and experiences with people of other cultures, and help non-native speakers feel comfortable talking to fluent English speakers by creating a non-critical, accepting and informal environment. Will work in small groups or one-on-one. Spanish proficiency preferred.

Time: Varies, one (1) day/week or more

Field Trip Coordinator:

Coordinate field trips that will acquaint ESL students and their families with services that may include cultural, educational, and recreational destinations in the local area. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred, high energy with good organizational skills desired.

General Administrative

 

General Site Maintenance:

Perform general maintenance operations. Includes basic electrical, carpentry, and grounds operations. Needs to be detail oriented and follow through with projects.

Time: 8:00am – 5:00pm, M - F, two (2) days/week or more as needed

Front Desk Reception:

Provide an enjoyable experience for our clientele. Answering phones, filing, data entry and greeting incoming and out going clients. English and Spanish proficiency required. Must be able to multi task and have good communication skills.

Time: 8:00am – 5:00pm, M-F, Varies depending on need

Youth Education & Mentor Development

 

Youth Tutor:

Provide homework assistance to primarily Latino students ranging form elementary to high school. Topics can range from reading, writing, science, math, history, and social studies. Need to be outgoing and friendly. Spanish language proficiency preferred. At least one year of post high school education preferred.

Time: 2:30pm – 4:30pm, M-Th, one (1) day/week or more, available for 2hour block

After School Tutor:

Provide homework assistance to primarily Latino students in local middle schools and high schools. Topics can range from reading, writing, science, math, history, and social studies. Need to be outgoing and friendly. Spanish language proficiency preferred. At least one year of post high school education preferred.

Time: 2:15pm – 4:30pm, M-F, two (2) days/week or more, available for 2hour block

Location: Varies, Local area high schools and middle schools

 

ELL/ESL Tutor:

Provide language and homework assistance for Latino ELL/ESL students who are not proficient in English. Training and experience in ESL tutoring preferred. Spanish language proficiency required.

Time: 2:15pm – 4:30pm, M-F, two (2) days/week or more, available for 2hour block

Location: Varies, local area high schools and middle schools

 

Leadership Mentors:

Work with 8 th - 11 th graders developing a youth leadership program that challenges and develops constructive and progressive opportunities for student to work with and in the community. Need to upbeat and energetic. Counseling/mentorship experience preferred.

Time: 2:30pm – 5:00pm, Fridays, are able to commit for 3-month periods

Development & Marketing Programs

 

Project Researcher:

Assist Centro Latino in locating new potential means of outreach through existing programs. Needs to be an outgoing person willing to network with other community organizations with relative interests and goals as Centro Latino. Detail oriented person that follows through.

Time: 9am - 5pm, M-F, one (1) day/week, varies on need

Location: Centro Latino, varies on project

 

Events Assistant:

Help Centro Latino develop community events and programs. Looking for a person with professional experience or strong interest in business and/or communications. Strong coordinating skills preferred. Excellent written and oral communications preferred.

Time: 9am – 5pm, M-F, three (3) days/week, varies on need

Location: Centro Latino, varies on event

 

Volunteer Coordinator Assistant:

Maintain files on volunteer personnel. Setup orientation meetings and recruit through multiple community resources. Plan training and special events as needed for volunteers.

Time: 9am – 5pm, M-F, two (2) days/week, minimum 5-hours/week
